Kyoung-won dreamed of flying ever since she was a child. She heads to Japan to fulfil her dream. While she is breaking every record as a great pilot, she meets her love, Ji-hyuk, a Korean serving in the Japanese army. When she is put into the jail on suspicion of taking part in Resistance activities, Ji-hyuk confesses that he is guilty only to save her.
The film is based on the true story of Park Kyung-won, Korea’s first female pilot during the Japanese colonial period. During the time, a person’s choice of existence couldn’t be separate from the historical context. Portraying the life of an individualist and free woman, Director Yoon didn’t add any ideology of nationality and patriotism. Three flying scenes focus on determination, dream and frustration of a person who stands against her own fate. The film tries to show the anxiety of the time and the gaze on the dream to escape from the reality. [KIM Youngjin]
