Mr. Kim, Head of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, couldn’t attend an event with the President. Instead, he keeps an appointment with a doctor and is told that he should take a break. While being treated, he hears the news that the President is planning a banquet. He heads toward the place and that night, he informs his right-hand men the plan to assassinate the President.
This is an ambitious black comedy about the assassination of the former President Park Chung-hee. As it slowly moves from the dining room where his body lied to nearby areas, the camera offers a visual tribute to the victims of the incident. Thereafter, the film readjusts its position and portrays the pathetic chaos in the ranks of power after the leader’s downfall. The bustling fuss shows Director Im’s determination to refuse any hint of interpretation on the President’s death. The film keeps its calmness in the swing of thrill and animosity. [KIM Youngjin]
