Soo-jong has lost his wife and leaves for Donghae (East Sea) with her ashes. He happens to meet a nurse and becomes entangled in a strange relationship. The film explores the pain of national separation through psychology and expressive experimental techniques. The main actress, Lee Bo-hee, also performs a triple-role in the film, revealing the breadth of her acting skill.
This is a poetic allegory on the loss in the age of division. While the film crosses different times, one actor plays multiple characters. It looks like a product of unconscious, automatic writing. Who is who or how the story develops aren’t important. People with deep scars go on a journey to shake off their bad luck and examine their scars carefully. The wounds of people and scenery leave strong images to the audience. The unconsciousness of the time met a genius artist Lee Jang-ho and engraved dreamy images on screen in a miraculous way.
