During the post-colonial period, the film explores the conflict between older and younger generations. The older generations who migrated from northern regions to south, barely make ends meet through menial labor. They want their children to follow the paths they´ve set. Rebelling against their parents, Geo Buk and Bok Sun run away together to pursue a different way of life.
Bloodline deals with people from North Korea living in the shabby, hillside neighborhood in Seoul. Using location and set designs, the film focuses on human desire. The first generation North Korean defectors are obsessed with success, though they have nothing to leave to their children. The story is quite different from other compassionate dramas. Unlike the superiors’ struggle for survival, the next generation has no specific desire. The film offers quite precise descriptions of the time without any hint of contempt for human being.
