As a child, Harley Prosper was appointed to be the Medicine Man of a village in the central Canada. When he grew up, Harley rejected his responsibility and ran away to Vancouver to drink himself to death, defying the Spirit who chose him. Confined in a hospice for the terminally ill, the film follows the daily ritual of a man who is refusing his sacred mission until the last moment.
As a child, Harley Prosper was chosen and trained to be the Shaman of a Cree community in Canada. However, while growing up he rejects this responsibility and flees to Vancouver. The Still Life of Harley Prosper is not a film about Harley’s history but leads the audience into a state of extinction by introducing voices, skin, delirium, alcohol and songs that dominated his spirit. Harley only waits for his death and the camera that records questions and answers is doing an in-depth coverage on the character with no signs of retreating. [JANG Byungwon]
