“I” work in a bookshop in the suburb of a town in the north of Japan sharing his flat with his friend Shizuo. Sachiko, I’s colleague from the bookshop, starts to visit the two man’s flat every night. They start to drink, play billiards and visit club together. But their happy days seem to meet its end as summer ends.
This is a beautiful youth movie full of unpredictable energy. Like the classic film Jules and Jim (1962), it deals with a love story but the tone and mood are completely different. Sachiko approaches "I" with affection at the bookstore they work together. Sachiko then ends the inappropriate relationship with the bookstore owner. Shizuo, roommate of "I," starts having feelings for Sachiko. The relationship of the three alternately kindles and burns in the summer air, but they do not forget their warm and caring friendship.
