Alice, a buoyant and impertinent redhead teenager, is far from the charming girl her mother adopted. Being an endless source of problems and affected by her mother’s disappointments, Alice forges lies and blurs the lines between the fiction she creates for herself. Until her mother discovers she is pregnant.
The day when Alice had a heated argument with her foster mother Bogdana, she confesses that she is pregnant and claims to give birth to a child. Bogdana, who failed to conceive in the past, is completely shocked by her confession. Pregnancy and abortion are familiar subject matters in modern Romanian cinema. As abortion was strictly prohibited during the Ceausescu regime, the dark history still remains in their consciousness. Life is a bumpy road, but Alice T. affirms the rebellious spirit which allows one can live his life in this brutal yet accidental fate. [JANG Byungwon]
